MAC’s Archie’s Girls Collections
invokes the nostalgia of childhood, standing in the grocery store checkout
line, waiting to purchase the newest comic release. I’ll admit that it was only weeks ago that I
learned of the anticipated launch of this collection, although there have been
press releases dating back to last summer.
I pounced on MAC’s website and
signed up to be updated on the launch of the Archie’s Girls Collection and
yesterday, I was ripped from my nap when I received the text. By the time I was coherent enough to check
the website, some of the most coveted items from the collection had already
sold out, even though the collection has yet to launch in stores.
Today, I scurried to my local MAC
counter and expressed my exasperation over needing to see these products in
person. I have come across a couple of
blogs with the most wonderful and complete look at the collection, including
swatches, but I could not find anyone of a similar skin color to myself. I’m a shopper who needs to see, smell, and swatch
a collection…okay, maybe not smell…before I buy it. One of the MA’s ran to the stockroom and
grabbed the bag of products. I could
tell that I was the first person to swatch the products as there were no
visible signs of trauma to the products.
I also noticed that the pearlmatte face powders were not in the bag (I
later learned that they had not been unboxed yet and I was only able to stick
around for the unboxing of one of the two powders).

Now, I must say that I personally, am not the biggest fan of hand swatches, but today it was a necessary evil. I was lucky enough to be able to see the products, but overjoyed at the opportunity to swatch them before the actual store launch. The lipsticks seem to be pretty opaque and one color seems to disappear on my hand altogether.
What can I say about the lipglasses...they are downright delicious. I was especially drawn to "Kiss & Don't Tell".
Betty's Caramel Sundae eyeshadow palette seems like the perfect band of neutrals to wear for an everyday look, while Ronnie's palette seems to lean more toward the dramatic, sultry, night on the town appeal. As far as the pigments...it amazes me that "Frenemies" such as Betty and Veronica, would have products that seem to complement eachother so well. I'm interested in seeing the creativity that comes from these pigments. I haven't seen a look produced with the pigments yet.
When I saw promo pics of Betty's Cream Soda blush, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Some images seem to make this blush lean more orange and warm. I'm not sure that translates on the hand swatches I posted. I think Veronica's Prom Princess will probably be the most universal when it comes to skin color.
I was only able to swatch one of the two Pearlmattes that were released with this collection. As you can see in the first image, Betty's face powder in "Flatter Me" appears to do just that; however in the image with flash, it does give a white cast. Product placement will be key when it comes to using this beauty.
Growing up, I've always though of myself as a "Betty" girl. I appreciated her easy-going/girl-next-door personality as opposed to the posh and pompous Veronica Lodge, so it pains me to say that I actually found myself more in love with Veronica's side of the collection.
